The Effects of Online Learning on Student Performance

A study in Jordan and the UK compared the effects of online learning on student performance. Both countries were considered to be technologically advanced and had a high sociodemographic structure. The study used surveys to assess undergraduate students’ perceptions of online learning and self-perceptions of academic capabilities. Semi-structured interviews were also conducted with professors in both countries.

Positive

There is a growing demand for online learning, especially among college students and institutions. In fact, one study looked at the effects of online learning on student performance. Students showed greater engagement and improved learning outcomes. The benefits of online learning are many, including increased independence and classroom participation. However, there are also some disadvantages of online learning. Students may not have access to a computer or a fast internet connection, which hinder their participation in online learning.

Students rated their online learning experiences based on six different characteristics. The six characteristics were divided into sub-items, which students rated from one to five. Each sub-item was then averaged to determine the overall performance score for the e-learning group. The results were displayed in a box plot, which compared the responses to various factors that influence the learning experience.

One drawback of online learning is the lack of interaction with classmates. In a classroom, students can discuss ideas, interact with each other, and collaborate with their peers. While this is possible in online classes, these benefits are limited in online classes unless there are over twenty students per instructor. In addition, it is difficult to engage in class discussions with peers, which can lead to new thinking and help students develop a more diverse perspective.

Another negative effect of online learning is increased screen time. Some parents are concerned about the physical and mental effects of excessive screen time. Too much screen time can lead to poor posture and other physical problems. This is why it’s important for students to take breaks regularly. Even if online learning isn’t the best choice for your child, it is important to make sure that your child gets enough rest.

Another positive effect of online learning is improved concentration. While some students struggle to concentrate in a classroom, online learning allows them to learn at their own pace. This is particularly important for introverted students who have a hard time keeping focused in a classroom.

No significant difference

A recent study found no significant difference in student performance between students enrolled in online courses and those enrolled in traditional classroom courses. This finding was consistent across gender, class rank, and learning modality. However, the results did point out some differences. Despite these differences, the study also found that gender was not the only determining factor.

The low effect size may be due to many factors. For example, online learning may require the students to use various learning resources and engage in active learning. Other moderator variables could have been considered in order to increase the practical impact of online education. The effect sizes were not statistically significant in most cases, but different moderator analyses may be used to determine whether students can benefit from online learning.

Another limitation of the study was convenience non-probability sampling. This technique limits the chance of selecting a representative cross-section of the student population. Therefore, future studies must emphasize proper study participant selection to account for the type and proportions of students. Additionally, future studies should consider the student population and the skills they bring to the table.

One advantage of the study was that it looked at the impact of gender, educational level, and personality traits on student performance. The study could serve as an important reference for online teachers. However, it should be noted that the study was conducted in China and is not applicable to other areas of the world. The study also did not account for the COVID-19 pandemic, so the results are not universally applicable.

The study was conducted on university students who completed GEIL101 foundation course. Approximately 87 students responded to the survey, which included performance and achievement questions. The study also included questions about the quality of online learning. The results of the study suggest that online learning is superior, but that the results are not consistent. However, more evidence is needed.

Facilitates communication between students, peers, and teachers

There are many roles a teacher can play in a classroom. Those who act as facilitators are likely to get a more collaborative attitude from their students. Kumpulainen and Wray list four ways a teacher can facilitate communication with students. In addition to the standard role of teacher, a teacher can also be an advocate for students.

Creating a dialogue between students, peers, and teachers can be difficult, but it is essential to creating a safe and supportive environment. In fact, research has shown that effective communication between students and teachers can have a positive impact on class participation, student engagement, and student achievement.
